Inheritance Agreements Are Coming – Major Reform in Greek Inheritance Law After 80 Years

The head of our firm, Konstantinos Aivaliotis, comments on the long-awaited reform in the field of Inheritance Law, coming after 80 years in our country.

This reform introduces the concept of the Inheritance Agreement into law — a provision that is set to change everything we know about inheritance matters to date.

We inform our clients and visitors to our website that an Inheritance Agreement is any written agreement concluded while the future decedent is still alive, concerning the fate of their estate after death. Its purpose is to ensure — from the moment of its signing — that a particular person or persons will ultimately receive the inheritance (or part of it), rights related to it, or be excluded from it, etc.

The introduction of the inheritance agreement into Greek law, as an additional legal tool alongside the will, has inevitably attracted significant interest from the legal world — and beyond — as it literally concerns all of us. This new method allows anyone to arrange their inheritance through a contract, and thus in a specific and secure way, during their lifetime.

More information about inheritance agreements can be found in the article by the head of our firm, published on the website of the historic newspaper of the Greek-American community, Ethnikos Kirikas (The National Herald), at the following link: https://www.ekirikas.com/oi-klironomikes-symvaseis-erchontai-s
